Tobacco use among women in the United States increases

Cigarettes becomes a symbol of emancipation and independence for women, and use steadily increases during the 1920's. However, smoking is considered immoral among women and it even impacts their ability to get jobs and go to college. In 1921, a bill preventing women from smoking in public is introduced in the District of Columbia.
