
During the reign of Louis XIII (1610-43), tobacco use spreads among all classes. The lower classes tends to smoke tobacco, while people who are part of the nobility and clergy increasingly turn to "snuff" (pulverized tobacco leaves are 'snuffed' into the nasal cavity).
