Louis XIV grants the first coffee monopoly

"Louis XIV grants the first coffee monopoly in order to assure a fixed revenue to help pay for his war expenses. The concession has little value because the price of coffee is set very high by a simultaneous edict, which lowers consumption." The monopoly is revoked a year later, after being severely impacted by the excessive price of coffee.
