In 1890, Sir Thomas Lipton purchased his own tea gardens in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka); in the same year, he packaged and sold the first Lipton tea. Lipton’s tea became an immediate success and quickly spread around the world, and is still enjoyed by millions of people today.
