Joyful News, a book suggesting tobacco can be a cure for many ailments, is published.

Nicolas Monardes, a Spanish physician-botanist, published a book about the medicinal benefits of tobacco and other plants. The book was later translated into English and titled "Joyful Newes out of the New-Found World". The book contains much of what we know about medicinal tobacco at that stage.
