First pictorial record of smoking in Guatemala

The first pictorial record of smoking is found in Guatemala, in the form of a pottery vessel dating from between the 7th and 11th centuries CE. On it a Maya is depicted smoking a roll of tobacco leaves tied with a string. The Mayan term for smoking was sik'ar.
