Guatemalans carved stones in the shape of miniature mushrooms

Miniature stones carved in the shape of mushrooms dating from 1000-500 BCE were found at the Verbena cemetery in Guatemala. The mushroom stones may be associated with the nine lords of the night and gods of the underworld. A study of the stones suggests that some of the stones may have been used to grind hallucinatory mushrooms to prepare them for ceremonial consumption.
