Coca chewing depicted in ceramic figurines

Several types of objects that indicate the practice of coca chewing have been recovered from archeological sites in Ecuador. One of the most well documented categories of such objects is that of coqueros, which are figurines of coca chewers. Some of those figurines, dated circa 500 BCE, have been found in Carchi, a province of Ecuador.
