By the early 1920s a push emerged to end prohibition. Beginning with British Columbia in 1921, Canadian provinces passed laws that replaced prohibition with government control of the distribution of alcohol. While most provinces had done so by 1927, Prince Edward Island did not repeal prohibition until 1948.
